The alleged thief was stopped by store security in the parking lot.
A man looking to buy two televisions and Xbox video games stole the goods when a cashier rejected his credit card, Colonial Regional police said.
Eric Francisco Maheux, 26, of Bushkill, Pike County, entered the Target, 3835 Dryland Place in Lower Nazareth Township, shortly before 1 p.m. June 13. Police say Maheux selected the TV's, six Xbox video games and an Xbox game controller and placed the items into a shopping cart.
Maheux proceeded to the check-out area and told the cashier he forgot his wallet, police said. He then allegedly returned with a credit card that was declined and told the cashier he needed to try another credit card.
Maheux then pushed the cart out the door without paying and was stopped by store security personnel, police said. The total value of the items was $779.
Maheux was arraigned on charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property before District Judge Patricia Broscius. In lieu of $5,000 bail, he was taken to Northampton County Prison, where online records showed he remained on Tuesday.
