Scherr advanced to the championship to be played at Torrey Pines in July.
Nazareth rising senior Kevin Scherr won the Pennsylvania state qualifying event Monday to advance to the 2016 IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships.
Scherr, the 2015 Lehigh Valley Junior Golf Tour player of the year, shot a 9-over-par 153 (75-78) at Schuylkill Country Club to win the 15-17 years-old boys division title.
Scherr advanced to the championship, to be played July 10-16 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. Torrey Pines hosted the 2008 U.S. Open, and has been selected to host the 2021 U.S. Open.
In early June, Scherr tied for medalist honors in an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Preview tournament at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.
A three-year starter for the Nazareth Area High School golf team, Scherr finished tied for third place in the 2015 District 11 3A Boys Golf Championship.
Also in 2015, Scherr won the Bethlehem GC Junior Boys Match Play Championship, Iron Lakes CC Junior Boys Stroke Play Classic, and had a successful qualification to the North American Junior Golf Championship.
