The new women's boutique opened on Main Street last week.
Nazareth's downtown manager is bringing her expertise in cosmetics to South Main Street.
Smooch on Main, which offers make-up, skin care products, jewelry, hand-bags, scarves and other boutique items, opened this week at 101 S. Main St.
Stephanie Varone, who has been the borough's downtown manager since 2013, has been trying to bring businesses to Nazareth and fill downtown storefront vacancies.
This year, she decided to add herself to the list of new businesses in Nazareth. Varone formerly owned Sofio, a similar boutique in New Hope, Pa., but a flood several years ago wiped out the shop.
"What better way for the downtown manager to show her support than to be a part of the downtown and put her own money into it," Varone said.
Nazareth cracks down on conversions
Varone, who worked previously as a vice president of sales for Estee Lauder for 19 years, said she is well versed in the cosmetics industry and will also offer make-up and skin care consultations, along with wedding, prom and other event makeovers.
"I left corporate to open my own store," Varone said. "It's something I've always wanted to do."
Her expertise and knowledge of how the industry works allow her to stay away from brand-name products and source her own line of cosmetics, which still goes under the Sofio name, Varone said.
Varone said she has help from two part-time employees but would like to add more if the business grows.
The shop will cater to a wide variety of potential patrons, from teens looking for glitter to older women concerned with skin care, Varone said.
"I sell products that make women feel prettier," Varone said.
